In July 13 walkers and 5 support crew participated in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Walking Challenge. This took us on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great walk and surrounding areas near Mapleton, Montville and Maleny. We walked through lush rainforest and past beautiful waterfalls. We enjoyed spectacular views of the Gheerulla and Obi Obi valleys. We each covered 84km with over 3000m elevation gain in 6 days and the hills were quite a challenge. The support crew also worked hard feeding and transporting us.
Highlights of the week included:
- Great scenery
- Yummy food and custom-made morning coffees
- Fantastic community and teamwork
- A visit from Reid and the chance to hear his story
- A Zoom call with the school in Zambia that included meeting and talking with staff members, visiting classrooms, and hearing from one of the Ukufuma graduates
The donations raised throughout this walk will cover the cost of one class of students in the school and approximately 8 students on Ukufuma scholarships for one year.
