2024 K’gari Walking Challenge

For one picture perfect week in August, 11 walkers and 7 support crew took on the 2024 K’gari Walking Challenge for Eagles Wings. We last visited K’gari (formerly Fraser Island) in 2021. Our 70 km walk took us to the beautiful sights of the island, including: Lake Wabby, Lake Boomanjin, Wongi sandblow, Dilli Village, Lake Mckenzie, Central Station, Poyungan Valley, Valley of the Giants, Eli Creek, to end at the aptly named “Happy Valley”.

Each day, we were inspired to read a story from the Ukufuma students at Eagles Wings. The theme of these stories was all about Training Future Leaders. We learnt the personal stories of students who had overcome adversity and grown in confidence as the achieved their dreams. They were studying across a range of courses including Environmental Science, Medicine, Nursing, Mechanics, Teaching and IT.

We were also lucky to have 2 x remote walkers joining the challenge – Karen walking the streets of Brisbane and Jada hiking in Tasmania!

This event has raised over $22,000 and also seen 5 new monthly donors sign up ($20/month), which really helps the ongoing sustainability of our organisation.

Well done team – another enjoyable and successful walking challenge complete!
