Challenge for Change exists to raise awareness of extreme poverty and to change the lives of those who currently live within these dehumanising conditions. We like seeing our event participants suffer for such a worthwhile cause. Hence our motto, 'Challenging events, changing lives.'

Since 2008 such events have raised over $670,000 and seen over 150 students supported on an ongoing basis who could not otherwise afford formal schooling. They have been held in Australia, Africa and New Zealand and have engaged both the donor community (mostly in challenging cycling events) and students from EW in a Surf Challenge!


#SEQ 2018 - Our 10th Event Celebration! - Note New Timing!

In 2018 we are celebrating 10 years of changing the lives of those less fortunate then ourselves. It has been an amazing 10 years, and to celebrate we would love to see as many as possible of our past participants return to take up this years cycling challenge, just make sure you bring a friend along for the experience. Together we are aiming for our best ever Challenging event, and Changing the Lives of generations to come!

The Event

This year we are staying local to SEQ and Northern NSW, so if you live in these parts you have no excuse not to join us, as we raise funds for the children in Zambia. Starting on Saturday 15th September, from the top of Mount Coot-tha after a delicous breakfast, we will head out towards Somerset. 1000km after leaving Brisbane, and winding our way through iconic destinations such as the Bunya Mountains, Warwick and Tenterfield we will finish our adventure at the Gold Coast, 7 days later. There are opportunities for both cyclists and support crew, so if you'd like to support the work of Eagles Wings we have a role for you!

  • Event dates - departure Saturday Septmber 15 to Saturday September 22
  • Event itinerary - Brisbane, Somerset, Bunya Mountains, Gattton, Warwick, Tenterfield, Casino, Gold Coast (more route details to come)
  • Accommodation - we will be staying in a mixture of cabin and open plan venues. More details will be provided following registration, but that means you will need to bring bedding (eg sleeping bag, pillow) and also a stretcher bed / air mattress. We will be in touch about the arrangements for this following registration
  • Team options - Two cyclist teams, at either a 27km/hr or 20km/hr pace, or driver/navigator, or ground support crew


We are focussing our fundraising efforts in two ways.  Firstly in support of a number of building projects on the ground in Zambia (, we will be raising much need funds to kickstart the construction of a new Adult Education building on the Monkey Fountain campus.  Secondly we will continue to support the work of the education program focussing on primary and secondary students - either through one-off donations or through new on-going monthly supporters.  

Our target is to raise $25,000 towards the adult education construction, $25,000 in donations towards the education program and 25 new on-going supporters.  With enough hands raised in support, this target is very achievable!  Our fundraising website will be up and running shortly, but don't let this stop you from fundraising now, with your registration you will receive details to help you raise this much needed funds for Zambia.

Cost and Registration

Registration fees are as follows:

  • Cyclist AUD$1100
  • Support crew AUD$850

Particpants are responsible for travel to the event start at Mount Coot-tha on September 15th, and from the event finish at the Gold Coast following a team breakfast on September 22nd.  More details on both venues to be provided shortly.

Required payment dates:

  • Deposit: at time of registration $100
  • 50% payment - 1 July 2018
  • 100% payment - 1 August 2018

Payment adjustments:

  • two discount opportunities are available for each event participant. If you raise $4,000 in donations for Eagles Wings we will discount your entry fee by 50%. Secondly if you bring a new cyclist to the event (that is someone who has never before joined us on our of our events), we will offer you a $150 discount. If applicable these discounts are offered as refunds on your full payment
  • you may elect not to include the supporter's polo or hoodie in your fee if you already have the apparel from the 2015 or 2016 (only) event, please advise this is the case in your registration form
  • you may wish to purchase additional cyclist kits, tickets to send-off breakfast etc, more will be communicated in regards to this after registration.
